About Chivi the District
Chivi, originally known as Chibi, is a district in the Masvingo Province of Zimbabwe. The area was originally established as a mission station in 1894 by the Berlin Missionary Society under the name Chibi Mission.
Prominent Schools
The district also has many Missionary schools: chibi high school , Berejena mission high school , Nyaningwe (St Luke's) High School and other smaller day secondary schools. Professor Jephias Matunhu , Dr Munyaradzi Mhaka, and Angeline Hofisi are from this district (see more on other notable people)
Geography
Chivi is located in a semi-arid area and occupies an area of 3,510 km2 north of Mwenezi (District) and west of Masvingo (District). The district is situated in the drought-prone region of the country with an average rainfall of 450 mm per year.
Demographics
Chivi is inhabited by the Karanga people, who are a subgroup of the Shona tribe. Much of the district is occupied by subsistence farmers.

Mission
To provide quality and equitable services to the community through sound local governance.
Mandate
To deliver social services namely; health, education, roads and bridges, water and sanitation, sewer and sewerage works, refuse removal, allocation of land for business and residential purposes, regulating local economic activities, markets and conservation of natural resources in terms of the Rural District Council Act (CAP29:13) as read with Section 276 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) 2013.

Audit Dept
Mission:
To provide independent and objective audit services to Council
Functions
- Asset verification
- Recommend more effective, efficient and equitable use of Council resources.
- Evaluation of risk and internal control framework
- Monitor compliance with law and regulation
- Review operational and financial performance of Council
- Investigate fraud and irregularities
- To evaluate Council’s Governance processes
- To conduct and objective assessment of the effectiveness of risk management processes and internal control framework
- To carry out value for money Audits for all Council projects

Finance Dept
Mission:
Provision of sound financial management systems in the operations of Council.
Functions
- Mobilisation of financial resources
- Maintenance of Council books of accounts in terms of set standards.
- Provision of financial advice to Council, Council committees and Council departments.
- Facilitating the formulation of council budget.
- Ensure council books of accounts are audited timeously.
- Provision of expenditure guidelines to council operations.
- Ensure safe custody of council security items.
- Ensure efficient and economical stock control systems
- Auctioning of stray animals
Engineering Dept
Functions
- To provide, construct and maintain tertiary access roads, bridges and culverts.
- To make, construct, clean , repair, maintain and extend drains, sewer and sewerage works.
- To construct and maintain schools, crèche, hospitals and clinics.
- To provide water reticulation infrastructure at Growth point and rural service centres.
- To provide infrastructure for lighting of streets, roads and public places within the Council Area.
- To provide public sanitary conveniences on land under the control of Council.
- To provide and maintain dams, canals and portable water facilities.

Mission:
To provide and ensure adequate, efficient and effective human capital and assets are obtained and retained for council cliental.
